17.1 What are Conditional Sentences?
Conditional Sentence లో రెండు భాగాలు ఉంటాయి:
- If Clause (పరతు): ఇది 'if' తో మొదలవుతుంది.
- Main Clause (ఫలితం): పరతు నెరవేరితే ఏమి జరుగుతుందో చెబుతుంది.
Example: If it rains, I will stay at home.
(If clause: If it rains → పరతు)
(Main clause: I will stay at home → ఫలితం)
17.2 Zero Conditional — శాశ్వత సత్యాలు (Facts & Habits)
ఇది ఎప్పుడూ నిజమయ్యే విషయాలకు వాడతారు. ఇందులో Present Simple రెండు భాగాలలోనూ వస్తుంది.
Structure: If + Present Simple, Present Simple
- If you heat water, it boils. (నీటిని వేడిచేస్తే, అది మరుగుతుంది.)
- If I eat too much, I get fat. (నేను ఎక్కువగా తింటే, నాకు బరువు పెరుగుతుంది.)
Usage: సైన్స్ నిజాలు, సాధారణ అలవాట్లు.
17.3 First Conditional — భవిష్యత్తులో నిజమయ్యే అవకాశాలు (Real Possibility)
ఇది భవిష్యత్తులో జరిగే అవకాశం ఉన్న వాటికి వాడతారు.
Structure: If + Present Simple, will + V1
- If it rains, I will stay at home. (వర్షం పడితే, నేను ఇంట్లో ఉంటాను.)
- If you study hard, you will pass. (నువ్వు బాగా చదువుకుంటే, నువ్వు పాస్ అవుతావు.)
TIP: Main clause లో 'will' బదులుగా 'can', 'may', 'might' కూడా వాడవచ్చు.
If you finish early, you can go.
17.4 Second Conditional — ఊహాత్మక, అవాస్తవిక పరిస్థితులు (Unreal Present/Future)
ఇది ఇప్పుడు జరగలేని, ఊహాత్మక పరిస్థితులకు వాడతారు. (ఉదా: "నేను ధనవంతుడైతే..." — కానీ నేను ధనవంతుడిని కాను.)
Structure: If + Past Simple, would + V1
- If I were rich, I would buy a car. (నేను ధనవంతుడైతే, కారు కొంటాను.)
- If she were here, she would help us. (ఆమె ఇక్కడ ఉంటే, ఆమె మాకు సహాయం చేస్తుంది.)
IMPORTANT: 'If I was' కంటే 'If I were' ను అధికారికంగా వాడతారు (ముఖ్యంగా I/He/She/It తో).
Short form: 'would' → 'd' (I'd, she'd)
17.5 Third Conditional — గతంలో జరగని ఊహాత్మక పరిస్థితులు (Unreal Past)
ఇది గతంలో జరిగి ఉండవచ్చు కానీ జరగలేదు అనే ఊహకు వాడతారు. (ఉదా: "నేను చదువుకుని ఉంటే..." — కానీ చదవలేదు.)
Structure: If + Past Perfect, would have + V3
- If I had studied, I would have passed. (నేను చదువుకుని ఉంటే, నేను పాస్ అయి ఉండేవాడిని.)
- If she had come, she would have met him. (ఆమె వచ్చి ఉంటే, ఆమె అతన్ని కలిసి ఉండేది.)
Negative: If I hadn't missed the bus, I wouldn't have been late.
17.6 Mixed Conditional — మిశ్రమ రకం
ఇది గతంలో ఒక పరతు ఉంటే, ఇప్పుడు ఏమి జరుగుతుందో చెప్పడానికి.
Structure: If + Past Perfect, would + V1
Example: If I had studied, I would be a doctor now. (నేను చదువుకుని ఉంటే, ఇప్పుడు డాక్టర్ అయ్యేవాడిని.)

'Unless' అంటే "...తప్ప" — ఇది 'if not' లాంటిది.

- Kiran: If we have time, we will meet for coffee.
